Pavan is NU's best ever

I don't think there can be any doubt about it now. Sarah Pavan is the best player to ever don a University of Nebraska volleyball uniform. Pavan became the school's all-time leading kills leader Saturday night, passing three-time first-team All-American Allison Weston in the process.

Pavan will become NU's first four-time first-team All-American in December, joining Stanford legend Logan Tom as the only four-timer. She could also become a two-time player of the eyar as well.

The interesting thing about Pavan is her demeanor. She's quiet, soft spoken and doesn't seek the spotlight.

But there's an intensity in her that is undeniable. That's what makes her the player she is - that and her 6-foot-5 frame. She really has the perfect volleyball body and athletic ability to go along with that competitiveness streak. Just think. Through 3 1/2 seasons with Pavan, the Huskers have lost just five matches -- Florida A&M, USC, Texas, Washington and Colorado. That surprising loss to Florida A&M early in her freshman year is Pavan's only loss in the state of Nebraska and her only loss at the NU Coliseum.

The rest of the Big 12 certainly won't be sorry to see Pavan and fellow seniors Tracy Stalls and Christina Houghtelling leave.

Actually - Logan Tom is not the only other player to receive AVCA Div I First-Team All-America honors. She just happens to be the last one to do it. Stanford owns a total of three players that have accomplished the feat. The others are Bev Oden and Karri Walsh. Sarah Pavan would be the first one to accomplish this for Nebraska, and the first one outside of the Stanford program. Nancy Meendering Metcalf is the only one that had a chance to get that close.
