Yanz is out
It appears official. Former Penn State setter Jessica Yanz won't be playing for Nebraska this fall.
Yanz enrolled at Nebraska in January, but needed a release from Penn State to be eligible this fall. The Nittany Lions won't give her that release. That means Yanz won't be playing for Nebraska until the fall of 2009.
It also means Sydney Anderson, a former Utah setter, will be the Huskers lone scholarship setter on the roster next fall. Anderson still has some school work she has to complete to be eligible, but NU coach John Cook is confident she'll get caught up.
Brigette Root of Grand Island, who led the Islanders to Class A state runner-up finishes the past two years, will be a walk-on setter for the Huskers in the fall.

Huskers add volleyball recruit
Megan Pendergast, a 5-foot-7 senior to be at Clear Creek High School in League City, Texas, told the Galveston County Daily News that she has verbally committed to join the Nebraska volleyball program in the fall of 2009.
Pendergast was being recruited by several schools as an outside hitter, but is expected to play libero at Nebraska.
Pendergast is the third known recruit for John Cook's 2009 recruiting class. Hannah Werth, a 6-1 outside hitter from Chatham, Ill., and Papillion-LaVista's Gina Mancuso, a 6-0 outside hitter, have previously committed to the Huskers.
