Big 12 challenging Huskers

The Nebraska volleyball team is now 4-0 in Big 12 play. In the past, those four wins might have been sweeps. It's different this year. The Huskers have won all four of their Big 12 matches 3-1.

The Huskers were in danger at Iowa State Saturday. The Cyclones very nearly won the third set to take a 2-1 lead. Who knows what would have happened if Christy Johnosn's team had done that. We might now be talking about the Huskers' first loss of the season.

But Nebraska held on. This year's team is nothing if not resilient. Next up Wednesday is a road match at cellar-dweller Texas Tech and a match Saturday at the NU Coliseum against Colorado. We may see a sweep or maybe even two this week.

Stalls helping out with Huskers

Former Husker All-American Tracy Stalls is helping out this season. Stalls is still finishing her degree, so NCAA rules say she's eligible to work with the Huskers as a student coach. Her job is to tutor freshman middle blocker Allison McNeal.

“Her main role is to mentor Allison McNeal,” NU coach John Cook said. “I just say, ‘Allison, here’s Tracy. Do what she does. Follow her around.’

“So she mentors her and then she’s great support to be around the girls as part of our support system. She’ll pull players aside. She’s been through the wars. She knows what it takes and she has a great perspective. They have a lot of respect for her.”
