Mancuso a Husker

It's not a big surprise, but Papillion-LaVista's Gina Mancuso has given her oral commitment to join John Cook's volleyball program for the 2009 season. The 6-foot outside hitter seems to be following a trend of smaller outsides for the Huskers, but there's no doubt the sister of former Husker Dani Mancuso can terminate.

Gina Mancuso has 1,650 carer kills and has a shot, though an outside one, of breaking the state record of 2,444 set by Papillion-LaVista's Kyla Roehrig, who now plays at the University of Minnesota.

Mancuso had 669 kills in leading the Monarchs to the Class A state championship this past season. Grand Island fans remember her and her teammates well. Papillion-LaVista beat the Islanders in five games to win the state title.
