Huskers rated No. 7
Defending national champion Penn State, with six starters returning, was a runaway No. 1 pick as it received 59 of the 60 first-place votes. Nebraska received the other first-place vote.
Stanford, Nebraska's season-opening opponent and NCAA runner-up the past two years, is No. 2 with Texas No. 3. Southern Cal, another final four team last year that is NU's second opponent on Aug. 30, is fourth with California fifth and UCLA sixth.
